The BMW CS lineup has grown again. For the first time ever, the limited run special edition M5 CS has been added to the CS lineup that currently includes the M2 CS, M3 CS and M4 CS. The 2022 M5 CS will be limited to just one model year of production.

For the first time, the M5 features seating for just four passengers. The driver and front seat passenger have new lightweight, heated and electrically adjustable M carbon bucket seats with substantial side-bolstering, integrated head rests and illuminated M5 logos. The two rear passengers have their own individual seats. The headrests of each of the four seats feature a map of the Nurburgring Nordschleife which was used to develop the M5 CS.

Powering the M5 CS is a 4.4 liter M TwinPower turbocharged V8 engine which generates 627 hp at 6,000 rpm, up 10 hp over the M5 Competition. Torque is rated at 553 lb-ft from 1,800 to 5,950 rpm. Redline is 7,200 rpm. All of that power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The M5 CS is 220 pounds lighter than the M5 Competition thanks in part to the extensive use of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). Exterior CFRP components include the roof (standard on all M5s), hood with vents (in unpainted carbon-fibre), front splitter, mirror caps, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. The engine cover, with full-colour M logo and stripes, is also made from CFRP. Additional weight savings were achieved by reducing soundproofing.

The combination of increased power and reduced weight result in 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprints in just 3.0 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the M5 Competition. Top speed, with the standard M Driver’s Package, is 305 km/h (189 mph).

Three xDrive modes are available including 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD. The Dynamic Stability Control system can be adjusted between three settings to enhance driver control. They include DSC ON, MDM (M Dynamic Mode) and DSC OFF. There are three Drivelogic modes including efficient, sport or track. The tone of the exhaust changes depending on the selected mode, which include EFFICIENT, SPORT or SPORT+.

The standard Dynamic Damper Control and M Servotronic steering offer a choice of drive modes which include COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+. COMFORT focuses on everyday driving, SPORT reduces wheel and body movements to create more direct contact with the road, and SPORT+ maximizes performance and is the best setting for race track use.

A special Gold Bronze finish is applied to the BMW kidney grille surround, to the model badging and to the 20-inch forged light alloy wheels.

Red six-piston fixed front calipers and single-piston rear floating calipers with M logos and carbon ceramic brake disks are standard on the M5 CS. This is the first use of red calipers with BMW Carbon ceramic brakes. Gold calipers are available as no-cost option. The M Carbon ceramic brakes are 50 pounds lighter than the standard M Compound brakes on the M5 Competition.

The M5 CS is available in Brands Hatch Grey metallic paint with two optional BMW Individual colours, Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic.
