Lotus has launched their entry into the 4-door electric high-performance segment with their all new Emeya. Its current competition in that segment includes the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron GT. The Emeya is going to be one of the fastest accelerating EV’s around with 0-100 km/h taking less than 2.8 seconds. Top speed is 250 km/h or 155 mph. It is scheduled to go into production in 2024.
“Bringing together our rich heritage with intelligent performance and the latest cutting-edge technologies, we’re pushing the boundaries for how a luxury electric vehicle should look and handle– making it truly for the drivers.”Feng Qingfeng, Lotus Group CEO
The Emeya has active aerodynamics including an active front grille, rear diffuser and rear spoiler which help improve handling and enhance its range. Its electronically controlled air suspension system sensors monitor conditions 1,000 times per second to automatically adjust to the settings that are ideal for the driving conditions. The Emeya has a low centre of gravity, thanks in part to extensive use of carbon fibre to reduce weight. It has a 50/50 front/rear weight distribution to enhance performance.
The dual motor architecture for the Emeya will result in power ranging from 600 hp to more than 900 horsepower. The Emeya uses 800V battery technology with Advanced Lotus Hyper Charging. In just five minutes of charging with a 350kW DC fast charger it can add 150 kms or 93 miles to its range.
“This is a Lotus like you have never seen before,” said Ben Payne, VP of Design. “We’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far to create a luxury performance car for the drivers, designed to inspire confidence, exhilarate with raw emotion and pure joy – connecting them to the road.”
