Sam Fane (Seen Through Glass) reviews the 485 horsepower 2016 Dodge Charger Scat Pack while in Vegas with the exclusive Modball rally. Although Sam admits that he’s usually “not a four-door saloon kind of guy,” he immensely enjoys driving the Go Mango orange muscle car.
For those who don’t know, the Dodge Charger Scat Pack is one of Dodge’s in-house tuned version of its Dodge charger, the other being the ferocious 707 bhp Hellcat. Compared to its less-tuned Charger brethren, the Scat Pack enjoys a number of dramatic improvements, including: a significant power boost (485 horsepower from its 6.2L V8 compared to 370 from a 5.7L V8), steering wheel shift controls, an active valve exhaust system, better engine cooling system, Brembo high-performance brakes, wider tires, and exclusive badging.
Despite the Scat Pack’s significant power deficit compared to big-brother Hellcat, Sam repeatedly insists that he never feels like he needs more power in the car. And the active valve exhaust system produces a beautifully throaty soundtrack that perfectly matches the car’s aggressive demeanor. Further, as much as he enjoyed his recent experience with the Dodge Challenger, Sam finds the Charger Scat Pack to be a much more “complete and rounded” car. Highway driving is a dream – the car is “the most comfortable creature…[its] big seats hug you like a giant bear.”
On the downside, the Dodge Charger Scat Pack suffers significant understeer. When entering a corner at any kind of speed, “you can hear the front wheels screaming, ‘what are you doing?!’”
Quite positive. In fact, Sam admits that if he had to move to America and choose an American car, the Dodge Charger Scat Pack would be a strong contender, given its combination of passenger space, storage space, comfort, abundant power and, of course, cool color options!
