The new roadgoing BMW M2 CS will be produced as a limited-run special-edition model and is positioned above the BMW M2 Competition. It builds on the lineage of the M3 and M4 CS models. The M2 CS is the basis for the for the M2 CS Racing, BMW M Motorsport’s new entry point into amateur racing and the new Clubsport segment.
The new M2 CS is powered by an inline 3.0 litre 6 cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. It produces 405 lb-ft of torque and 450 hp, 40 hp more than in the BMW M2 Competition. The 6-speed manual transmission equiped M2 CS will accelerate from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) with the automatic transmissionn takes 4.0 seconds. Top speed, with the standard M Driver’s Package, is electronically limited to 280 km/h (174 mph).
Upgrades for the M2 CS include new carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) construction for the hood which cuts its weight by 50%, central air vent which increases downforce and improves engine cooling, a roof made from CFRP, a new front splitter, Gurney spoiler lip on the trunk lid and a rear diffuser in exposed carbon fibre.
For the first time in a CS model, a 6 speed manual comes standard on the M2 CS. a 7 speed M double-clutch transmission (M DCT) is available as an option. Other standard features include an adaptive M suspension with Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, M Sport brakes with red-painted callipers; M Carbon ceramic brakes are optional; Active M Differential and M Dynamic Mode, lightweight 19-inch Y-spoke forged wheels in a high-gloss black or optionally a matt gold which are shod with specially adapted Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
The dual-branch exhaust system enhances aesthetic and aural appeal, features two electrically controlled flaps and four stainless steel tailpipes with the M logo. Lightweight, bucket-style M Sport seats from the BMW M4 CS with integral head restraints featuring BMW M stripes; seat backrests in Merino leather/Alcantara and with red contrast stitching. M Sport steering wheel with Alcantara covering and a red centre marker as an option. Misano Blue metallic paint is available exclusively on the M2 CS.
Delivery of the first BMW M2 CS Racing is planned for mid 2020. As with the predecessor models, the BMW M235i Racing and the BMW M240i Racing, several platforms around the world will be available to the new car apart from the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring and the TC America. A Permit B version is planned for racing at the Nordschleife (GER) as part of the VLN.
