The iconic naturally aspirated V12 engine lives on in the Lamborghini Revuelto, the all-new replacement for the decade old Aventator. The Revuelto is Lamborghini’s first non-limited production V12 hybrid plug-in High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV). In 2020 Lamborghini built a limited number of V12 hybrid Sian’s which were based on the Aventador. Less than 100 Sian’s were built. Lamborghini launched their company 60 years ago with the V12 powered 1963 350GT.
“The new Revuelto is a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, and an important pillar in our Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO. “It is a unique and innovative car but at the same time faithful to our DNA: the V12 is an iconic symbol of our super sports heritage and history. Revuelto was born to break the mold, combining a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology, creating the perfect balance between delivering the emotion that our clients want with the necessity to reduce emissions.”
The Revuelto’s engine is the lightest and most powerful V12 Lamborghini has ever produced. At 480 pounds it is 37 pounds lighter than the Aventador’s V12. The new L545 6.5 litre engine generates 813 horsepower at a lofty 9,250 rpm. Redline is 9,500 rpm. Torque is rated at 534 lb-ft at 6750 rpm.
The Revuelto has three electric motors. Two motors power the front axle, one for each front wheel, the third electric motor can supply power to the rear wheels, depending on the selected drive mode. The V12 sends its power to the rear wheels resulting in a 4 wheel drive hybrid supercar. The Revuelto can run in purely electric mode.
When you combine the electric motor’s 258 lb-ft of torque, with the V12’s 534 lb-ft, you end up with 792 lb-ft of torque. Combined horsepower is 1,000.7 hp. That will launch this 2 ton carbon fibre supercar from 0-100 m/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.5 seconds. Top speed is more than 350 km/h (217 mph). With the introduction of electric torque vectoring four-wheel drive, a first for Lamborghini, cornering in the Revuelto should be just as impressive. When braking, the e-axle and electric motors slow the car down and recharge the battery.
“With Revuelto we take the experience of driving a Lamborghini to a superior level,” said Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer. “Revuelto takes a significant step forward in terms of reactivity and responsiveness to ensure the most emotive and natural driving in every environment. Revuelto is a car delivering the highest performance but our objective right from the start was to confirm it at the very summit of driving emotions.”
The new steering wheel in the Revuelto was inspired by the Squadra Corse race car steering wheel. The new controls help the driver to easily access and control the vehicle dynamics and multimedia settings. Lamborghini teamed up with Bridgestone to build a run-flat Potenza Sport tire specifically for the Revuelto. It is fitted with 265/35 ZRF20 tires up front and massive 345/30 ZRF21’s in the rear. The tires were designed using Bridgestone’s Virtual Tire Development technology which reduces the use of raw materials during the tire development process.
There are 13 drive modes to choose from including Recharge, Hybrid, Performance, Città (City), Strada (Street), Sport and Corsa (Race). Corsa mode cranks all performance settings to the max and is intended for use on race tracks. Corsa Recharge mode prioritizes the battery and its recharging.
“The Revuelto is adrenaline made visible,” says Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini Head of Design. “The design of the new Lamborghini Revuelto opens a fascinating door towards the future of our unique design language. From first sight, Revuelto is an intriguing next-generation Lamborghini V12, with all lines embracing the monocoque and celebrating a free view towards the V12 HPEV powertrain. The unique and recognizable Y-shape light signature is significant in this new era of our most iconic flagship car, and the interior is a dramatic leap forward in defining the new design direction of Lamborghini. Our philosophy of “feel like a pilot” is vivid and visible in every detail: the driver and passenger are deeply integrated in the very lightweight Y-shape design of dashboard and center console, replicating the sensations of being in a race car but with a perfect intuitive balance between digital and physical controls.”
The Revuelto is based on the new ‘monofuselage’ chassis which represents a big step forward from the Aventador, regarding torsional stiffness, lightweight qualities and driving dynamics. The Revuelto is the first supercar to have a 100% carbon fibre front structure, which is lighter and has double the energy absorption of the outgoing Aventador.
Lamborghini has equipped the Revuelto with their Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Safety features include Active Lane Departure Warning (ALDW), Lane Change Warning (LCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
The Revuelto is available in 400 exterior colours. Custom colours are also possible. Lamborghini is using water based paint which is more environmentally friendly than solvent based paint. Pricing for the new 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto has not been released yet.
